A whole lot of Falafel

Tonight I experienced my very first Falafel. If you're unsure of what a Falafel is you can always google it, but its pretty much a pita filled with fried chickpea balls and then topped with a variety of whatever else you think you might enjoy. For example: fried turnips (hot pink in color), salsa, cucumbers, tomatoes, humus, garlic hummus, fried onions, yogurt, eggplant, coleslaw, peppers, lettuce, guacamole, and other things I can't identify.
The first step to creating your Falafel is to "Squeeze your balls," meaning, squeeze the Falafels balls inside of the pita taco thing so the chick peas spread. Second step - fill your Falafel full.
I tried to put most everything on mine...
When we had our Falafels and were ready to chow down we had no place to sit.
We had to set all of our falafels and cones filled with fries down on a napkin covered table in order to arrange random chairs into one spot. My Falafel was constantly falling apart so that I had to continually scoop everything back in with my hands. The place didn't have any silverware so manners went out the window. We finally got to sit and eat.
Falafels aren't bad, but they aren't good either.

friends are welcome here

Baum de baum came to visit AGAIN! how luck is that?!
She was welcomed by creatures and children - two of her loves.
It was a fun filled weekend from beginning to end. We went to
Bus Boys and Poets for some DC culture as soon as she arrived. We ate 7-11 donuts
at 2 in the morning for a late night snack. We slept in and went shopping, played with
baby will, hung with my dad, at oriental food, tried to go bowling, played chess, played
spoons, tried playing would you rather, took a midnight road trip, and then slept again.
Woo!
It's always fun having friends.
For a peak at the trip you can visit our joint blog:
Now it's back to the boring of the week.

Looking Up

The past two days didn't need coats or scarves or hats or gloves.
It's really got me looking forward to laying in some grass and soaking in
a brighter sky, possibly in my sleeping bag.

MLK would be proud

My first trip to the National Cathedral after all these months of visiting and living near the city took place on Martin Luther King Day. This was the last place he spoke before his death. The program featured artists of all sort - dancing, singing, speaking, drumming...
At the end we all held hands and swayed back and forth singing, "we will overcome."
It was a memorable experience.
We ended the day at Ben's Chili Bowl. It seemed quite fitting.

Hold up those cheese fries!

back to the bump and grind

I took a nice rural break from school, filled with JCrew, television, laundry, books, family, friends, food, and everything else I'm forgetting to mention. Now the time has come that you're excited for and dreading at the same time - another semester. It's back to life with my beloved roommates, apartment hopping, and metro riding.

and it snowed!
In one of my classes today my teacher and a chosen student birthed themselves from silky spandex body bags. Hands down the funniest thing I've ever experienced. I cried tears of laughter. The best part is how serious it was supposed to be, but how hilarious it was. I actually felt so happy afterwards that I couldn't feel sad if I tried. I think fun and joy are two main points of this class. Check and check.
It was the perfect start to a new semester.
2011 is a new year and I'm excited about it. So far, every minute of it has been fantastic.

She'd kill me if she saw the word 'aged', but seriously - how beautiful is this grandma??
They think they're all playing...
