29 April 2010

It's a wish-to-sail-away kind of week. Once I did and it was the best thing that ever happened.

"If we are obedient to the commandment of love, there will be no disputations, contention, nor hatred between nor among us."
The best way to see others is as He sees them, and then love people for what you see.

Natural Histories

Natural Histories is an organic approach to portraying traces of my past. These vintage family photographs dug out of a Danville farmhouse were the inspiration for my collection. The idea that I have an ambiguous relationship or invisible connection with the showcased figures has led to the creation of meaningful, personal, art. Hand sewn fabrics and wood from demolished houses are materials that represent the home and family life. Each of my ancestors had stories of their own to tell; as a part of my past, decades after their hard-working, long-loving lives, they are now my stories to share. I make blank books as companions to my screen prints. Books filled with blank pages to be covered with stories, notes, thoughts, drawings – anything or everything; incorporating images that provoke imagination. All together I’m an artistic story-teller sharing artistic stories.

Here are some pieces from my show. The opening was really successful and so much fun. I got a lot of great compliments on my work and plan on continuing in this direction. Etsy??

Today we all remember the 32 hokies. I started the morning with a 3.2 mile run along with 5000 other hokies. It was a great feeling.

1 Month Left

I'm graduating college in one month, exactly. Things are winding down, beginning with my first gallery art show: Natural Histories. Held at the Armory Gallery in Blacksburg, debuting my art along with 2 fellow art students. I'll post photos of my work later.
My new heading is in celebration of my recent acceptance to GWU and taking the offer. DC is about to be my new home.
