Natural Histories
Natural Histories is an organic approach to portraying traces of my past. These vintage family photographs dug out of a Danville farmhouse were the inspiration for my collection. The idea that I have an ambiguous relationship or invisible connection with the showcased figures has led to the creation of meaningful, personal, art. Hand sewn fabrics and wood from demolished houses are materials that represent the home and family life. Each of my ancestors had stories of their own to tell; as a part of my past, decades after their hard-working, long-loving lives, they are now my stories to share. I make blank books as companions to my screen prints. Books filled with blank pages to be covered with stories, notes, thoughts, drawings – anything or everything; incorporating images that provoke imagination. All together I’m an artistic story-teller sharing artistic stories.
